just made my first creation in month on besiege....a 3 speed car with rtc, no rear diff, but it runs a "diff" planetary gear for transmission.

I have a 5 speed in process too (4up, 1 rev)

Def not smallest, but neat event still! :)

Almost there, keep it up!

haha no problem. you did a good job here already.

Thanks for your comment. In theory, you're right, can't deny what you said here. This differential shouldn't be called LSD (it's more likely a combination of welded and open diff with variable slipage) because a real geared LSD uses clutch pads or viscious fluids to constantly limit the maximum difference between the two spining shafts while this differential becomes pretty much rigid(or locked) at set value of slipage (the thing that ropes does) and that makes it work unrealisticly ^^. But looking at the bright side, it's completely vanilla and making it with clutch pads would take huge amount of space. Well all I can say, I'm sorry if I dissapointed you, my bad for not giving enough information in decription, peace ^^

In theory, your LSD's working logic is not right.
A LSD should encourage small wheel speed difference, ie when turning, and lock it up when one wheel loses traction, ie the speed difference is big.
Yours, when ropes are not tightened, is an open diff, that's ok.
But once it is tightened, it does not encourage small speed difference (cuz the ropes are pulling) and once the speed difference is big enough for the rope to handle, it becomes an open diff, which loses the whole point of limiting slip.

It kinda loses grip if you do it like this

I should come up with something too but I'm still pondering on it

Yeah it's RWD and has live axle in rear while independent suspension is in front ^^
posted by Vinarco 2 months ago on Modded Car W 6 Speed(2 range3 speed) Transmission
sorry i thought that was the front
posted by Vinarco 2 months ago on Modded Car W 6 Speed(2 range3 speed) Transmission
that's not an independent suspension

P.S. In that photo these 2 powered cogs added are set with left/right for forward/backward

Thanks ^^. Actually I used the same idea of your mechanism in my tank with 3 speed transmission, just made it a little more compact. Also I've "modified" your tank with mine mechanism and here's a photo how more compact version of it would look if you care ^^: http://imgur.com/a/FQWD6

Nice. You should make one with a subtractor mechanism like this:

Thanks ^^ Yeah got it but a bit too late, used 4 braces in next creation though.

posted by oziboy 3 months ago on Steam Powered Tractor
Nice build

For the connection between the motor and the wheels though, instead of 2 braces you should use at least 3, there's this thing where if the engine stalls it might turn the wrong direction if you use 2

Or you can use that to your advantage and make the tractor have a reverse gear

I like it though

Thanks. Yeah I know that feeling too mate, Besiege physics are pain in the butt sometimes :D
posted by Roycehellion 4 months ago on Completely Automatic CVT
Nicely done. I have a setup just like this, but besiege kept breaking my chain and i got mad and quit. You can def scale down a lot of that and use some better mechanisms, but nicely done. Always liked the double cone CVT. kept waiting to get beaten to it.

"Roycehellion" the inputs are located near the big gear attached to starting block ^^.

The tachos of course, otherwise it'd act weird.

This is brilliant mate, well done. Next, use a differential instead of/as well as the tachometer, as a sort of resistance sensor.
posted by Roycehellion 4 months ago on Completely Automatic 4 Speed Gearbox
Looks interesting, but which is the input. Lots of stuff spinning on this thing.

Oh yeah I have seen few of them before too. Later when I have some more free time on my hands I will try to create something like that. It kinda sounds like a challenge now ^^

posted by The J 4 months ago on 4 Speed Automatic Transmission
Ah, right. I should mention that it could actually be possible. Just look up "Lego automatic gearbox", there are some great examples using things like centrifugal tachometers and differentials that actually do act like resistance sensors. So far I haven't managed anything due to besiege's limitations with friction and power loss, but it feels close. Scaling should make it almost easy.

Thanks !^^ As you know Besiege hasn't got any type of sensor block atm so automatic contraptions isn't really possible. So all I got in mind by saying "automatic" is that this model represents how an actual automatic transmission in a car works, not that it's actually auomatic by itself ^^

Pretty damn cool. Automatic, though? How so?
