i use a throw of two and just go for the slower RPM, torque seems to matter more than RPM in besiege until they get better physics. :)

I agree that cannons have much more potential!

Hehe, it's an entirely different system

This is relatively simple (don't kill me, it can become seriously complex), the walking system is very complex to get right

They're two different worlds and not worth comparing imho

Yes, actually I think we could make some sort of variable timing (for the VVT-I/I-VTI/VTEC fans hehe) using this system, but we just need a way to automatically switch when a certain rpm is reached
After that it would automatically advance or lengthen the firing stroke to ensure firing

I'll try using a larger throw, iirc this is either -0.125 or -0.25, could be -.5 too but I'm not too sure anymore

THERE IS AN ADVANTAGE THOUGH! These cannons ARE less consistent than steam cannons, BUT, using cannons we can redirect the stroke and thus end up gaining power. A steam cannon can't do this because it's expansion based and you can't cut the stroke off after firing, a cannon just fires once which is ideal. I'll make an example very soon,

You are using too small a throw for a decent RPM. Plus once you break much over 60 RPM the cannons have trouble igniting consistency. Ive had this issue on some of my engines so i use really heave flywheels. Plus the ignition system you are using is cool, but its really bad when the RPMs jump.

To attach to a wheel I dono if you or Royce worked this out as well but if you place a ballast (as the hub) the put a small wheel scaled down to fit on the drive side parallel to your actual wheel connected by a brace you can pass drive from your cardan to your wheel in a small package that remains as strong as using the standard besiege powered wheels the way we normally do.

Ive spent some time messing with sub-value ballasts (and springs) you get some weird responses, but never tried this. Very good use of a glitch.

Yeah, a 2 stroke I4 is basically a 4 stroke I8 with half the friction loss and half the vibration really :/

But I like them nonetheless! :P

4 stroke is cool for modeling, but makes half the power. Im making an I4 2 stroke, witha throw of two for a little more torque :D

Check this old engine out for a nice little valve trains. It has a slight bind, that prevented me from building more like this, but with mods etc now, it would be a great cannon engine. Im gonna do that this week

I mean it runs, it runs alright under zero gravity but it feels so bad it accelerates suddenly very quickly then goes slow again, sometimes stopping and catching up again

Calculation sure does look nicer and has less drag when done properly though :/

The issue is centering the piston hinge, if that isn't done well the piston itself has more travel, causing more drag

Also, fixing this is seriously hard, I can't get the timings straight, I just can't seem to balance it, I think I did wrong by adding cogs to the valvetrain to invert the rotation

In previous engine builds I ran into issues regarding stability and didn't want to mess around with it any longer so now I use this to make it more precise and easy

Besides, I make a base design and then adjust everything so instead of going through the pain of calculating it all and having to rotate everything bit by bit I can do it at once

Nice design but may I ask, what is the purpose of steering hinges? Couldn't medium cogs/hinges be moved/rotated in design itself?

http://www.calculator.net/triangle-calculator.html I used to use this one to calculate the right angle for the pistons (now I use extra hinges to twist and lock them into place really)

When I made my worm gear worm wheel, I didn't use this and it turned out kinda weird, like an elliptic shape
