Might have overlooked it, I'll make a 2 stroke version of this soon, will find out when I do I suppose.

I saw yours on your channel but honestly forgot to look on besiegedownloads :P

The shrapnel cannons are just for fun really, they make a nice sound but they don't fire as well as a water cannon does
I think my single valve V-twin model, but inverted (pistons facing down) would be the most efficient for this style of piston engines

Or alternatively, putting an alteration of this boxer design vertical so the pistons face up and down, then adjusting the cannons so they fire from the insides instead of the outsides.

Nice setup, but timing is way off on some cylinders. glad to see you still building. i put one up the other day too :)

Yeah, really need new blocks :/

I'm messing around with usable cvt yes, maybe to implement it once

I'll do everything without a reverse gear first and see what happens lol

still working on atm/cvt? im gonna make an engine today i think, but this will be it for a while again until they get off their butts and add new blocks.

Sorry my mistake, I don't know where "boxer" came from, boxer is when the engine has opposed pistons, not like this

This is a knocker engine

Haha, totally right!

Thanks :P

Not only it sounds like a runaway diesel but it also has the same emissions (tons of black clouds) ^^ Nice

I've finally made another, simplified version with same working principle(Atleast when it comes to the video)
Check it out if you're interested ^^: http://besiegedownloads.com/machine/56752

Bingo, found the issue!

The transmission is bad because it wants to start in a high gear, which the engine can't take, and lowering the gears take a little bit of force, which the engine can't provide because of the friction

Or its just jumping gears smh
posted by The J 1 month ago on Automatic transmission without planetary - car
I've gotten one of these running before as well - with lego and with besiege. Turns out that using friction to change gears is, well, awful - think of the inefficiency. Still, it's really cool to see your take on it.

Yeah thanks

I haven't been able to find out what the hell is going on though, when I use the engine and actually get it running it just behaves like the wheels are detached, but I know they aren't because the vehicle kicks and the engine gets a lot of friction going on

I'll try again with different engine layouts and maybe a different transmission alltogether.

Ahh I actually tried to make the same design from the same video but I failed ^^ Well done

This is still nothing, I could definitely make it smaller

It isn't automatic the way I wanted it, I suppose we'd need some sort of "electronic control" to manage that but we can at least make a decent manual transmission out of this, it's less complex and much compacter than fitting 10 gears to do the same

I'm not sure what you mean with the steam balancing it tho

posted by Roycehellion 2 months ago on Automatic-ish transmission
DL'ing, gotta see it. you are decent at making new stuff, but you tweak stuff really freaking well. and now you tweaked mine. ^_^
posted by Roycehellion 2 months ago on Ozi's single-valve V-Twin
but!!!!

can it run and not be affected by the steam balancing it. other than that its the reverse of my engine from ages ago, but also better... :)

Okay I looked at this for 10 minutes and I can't believe I didn't see it before

It shouldn't cause an issue really but the timing is actually off, I forgot to shift the rocking mechanism further left by half a block and that's why it hits one piston longer for a split second than the other piston

But still, I believe this is by far one of the most efficient ways in Besiege to generate power from piston-style engines
I used this system on the DUKE engine too, and a few radial engines, but this is quite different.

Next up: V6 in this style, as compact as possible.

Fancy! I've got enough power to go BIG now too >:D

What's wrong though, try invincibility, infinite ammo and zero gravity (not that it's supposed to be necessary)

Did you hold right and down arrows?

couldnt run it :(

If you start building engine again its gonna get me building them too.... -_-

got a new pc now too. I7 7700k and all sorts of stuff! :D

Meh, im pretty much retired from it. I definitely got my money's worth from it though.

If you looking at valveless engines why not try go back to basics with a 2 stroke design? Imy just speculating as I am no besiege engine wiz but I've rebuilt many in real life.
posted by oziboy 10 months ago on Proof of concept combustion engine
My aim is to design a valveless feeder to reduce drag, similar to koeningsegg engines

I'll check it out and besiege it tho
posted by Druggernaut127 10 months ago on Proof of concept combustion engine
Im nowhere near good enough for something like this but for your feed mechanism i think royce is on the right track, take a look at the gearing inside a Dye Rotor 2 paintball hopper its literally designed to stop bottlenecks happening inside with the paintballs and it has an extremely simple yet effective gearing setup, im pretty sure you could come up with a besiege version, i'll try mock up a feeder hopper of my own
posted by oziboy 10 months ago on Proof of concept combustion engine
Shrapnell cannons aren't very good, they are not really explosions but more little blocks that hit another to accellerate

bombs are literal explosions

@Roycehellion, yeah, to be honest I'm not planning this to be able to run any moving vehicle, unless we can have these blocks: cup, fuel, pipes and a pump
posted by Roycehellion 10 months ago on Proof of concept combustion engine
Still creates the problem i had with mine. Ive already made one of these, but the fuel supply is still an issue. To generate torque you need a heavy flywheel for consistent RPM and large fuel supply. you could shrink the living heck out of the grenades for size constraints, but still. Im not seeing this as viable to power a moving machine with. I like the idea of using the vacuum, but theres a lot of ways to meter grenades as fuel.

Link to mine: http://www.besiegedownloads.com/machine/32732

With mine you can see it could meter just as well with a hopper loaded right above the feed arm. I didnt mod then, so it wasnt as easy to build.
posted by Polo5 10 months ago on Proof of concept combustion engine
Cool, in real life fuel is like millions of tiny grenades, and the functionality is a little more polished since this is just a proof of concept.

I tried doing something similar with shrapnel cannons that get heated by torches when they need to fire and push the piston.
posted by oziboy 10 months ago on 2 cilinder vacuum engine
We should make a grenade engine

I know it's possible, I made a prototype

The feeder mechanism is alright, only somethings missing to feed the feeder, or make the mag run smoothly because it bottlenecks the grenades flowing through
posted by Roycehellion 10 months ago on 2 cilinder vacuum engine
Neat idea. Makes no torque though, but so do pretty much all the vacuum engines ive seen so far. My I4 had to be really cranked up to run a car.
